Log Canyon - Another beautiful place!!

On Friday, Sept. 26th (Happy Birthday Ryan!) we went for an incredible ride up Log Canyon. In order to get there we had to ride over to the highway near Fountain Green. The canyon is NW of the town. This is the entrance to it. (The road up it is 4-wheel drive recommended)

Just barely in the canyon we knew it was going to be a beautiful ride.

The higher we got, the prettier it got!!

I kept stopping - because it was so beautiful.

Pictures do not do it justice. We loved it!!

When we reached the top we could look down into the Indianola Valley (where our property is) and down into the Levan area -- an amazing site! We felt like we were on top of the world.

Fall in Utah ~ Skyline Drive

On Friday Dennis and I took a ride up on Skyline Drive, east out of Fairview, to see the fall leaves, and it was beautiful!! We have ridden up here on our quads ... but this is further south - so we enjoyed the views from the truck this time.

This is Huntington Lake - breath-taking, for sure!

A little patch of 'quakies' amidst the pines (that are dying from the beetle - SAD!)

I couldn't resist this grove - with all the varieties of colors.

Pretty to catch the reflection of the clouds in the water.

BBQ - Opening Social - Our Backyard

We had the opening social/BBQ/Family Home Evening for our BYU ward tonight. In case you can't tell, it was a HUGE success. If you feed them ... they will come!!

The grand total was - 75 youth plus 14 adults ... quite a few for our cozy backyard. They didn't seem to mind a bit!! This is a relatively new ward - (meaning the kids don't know each other) - so there was a lot of 'getting acquainted' going on. Gotta love BYU!!

See how they serve each other!!! It is amazing to watch. (They even help clean up -- we love it!!)

We set up our side yard with the food and that really helped with the crowd control. Dennis and Brad (his counselor) cooked the burgers and hot dogs ahead of time and put them in cooler boxes to keep warm. (An old scouting trick) It worked out great -- no waiting when it was time to eat!!

Do you know what these are?

These are CHOKE CHERRIES!!
- a tart berry that grows wild in a few places here in Utah (and elsewhere) - they make delicious syrup. We used to make it when the children were very young ... and we lived in Idaho. Dennis (old eagle eye) spotted them last week-end and so we have spent 2 days hunting and picking berries. Luckily we found some right along the road (on a quad ride).

Here he is --- picking away!!

And this is the finished product ... from our first picking. (There is about twice that much in the fridge waiting for me to get to this week) One thing about fruit ... you take it when you get it!! This is a fun 'memory' for our older children. NOTE: We ended up with 28 quarts ~ it always is so rewarding to see the finished product!! (Thanks Dennis for helping!!)

Company at the Property!

Dave, Amy and Seth came and spent the night with us ... they stayed in the bunk house. It got pretty chilly for them. Seth has a 'sooty' nose (if you click on the picture you can see what I mean) because he put his nose on the screen to look in where the fire was. He loved cooking marshmallows - or watching them burn ... not sure what he enjoyed more!

Seth (and Dave and Amy) exploring at Grandpa's property. We enjoyed having them come and stay.

David and Ryan surprised us and came for a quick visit. They had been out 'spotting' for deer - the deer hunt is coming!!
