Celebrating 39 years of marriage!!

We began our 'celebration' early Friday morning ... June 6th, 2008 (our wedding was on a Friday -- 39 years ago today!!) ... by stopping at one of our favorite places - Cabela's in Lehi.
(Yes, the wind was blowing!)

Amy and Seth came over to meet us and wish us a Happy Anniversary. (Seth LOVES going to Cabela's - he had to show us the 'fishes'!!)

Our second stop was to another favorite ... IKEA in Draper. We decided we wanted to have an IKEA breakfast ... (only $1.99 each!) BTW - as a note ... it wasn't all that great ... their meatballs for lunch or dinner are wonderful, but the breakfast was just so-so!!

Next we headed through SLC (and also through much construction No. of SL) - to Brigham City, and then up Sardine Canyon into Cache Valley. It is a pretty drive on a 4-lane highway (but it can still be nasty in the winter). Dennis is standing in front of Gossner's Cheese Factory in Logan - where we tasted many different cheeses (bought some 'squeaky cheese' aka cheese curd) and had some extra creamy ice cream!!!

The next stop was the
Pepperidge Farms factory - located in Richmond, north of Logan - near the Idaho boarder. Here we sampled several crackers and cookies and bought 'fish crackers' - which they sell by the pound. As you can tell, it was RAINING ... but not hard, and it didn't spoil our celebrating!

Another stop was for honey -- at this quaint gift shop. Here we also got to sample different kinds of honey! We fell in love with the creamy almond ... and brought some home. We also brought honey home for baking.

Above on the left is a blooming - Chestnut tree!! (Remember the song ... Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree? It took on new meaning as we saw them all over town) So beautiful.

And ... a trip to Logan must include a stop by the temple ... high on the hill. Even in the rain it is a beautiful site to see.

For dinner we went to the old train station - which is now a Mexican Food restaurant. While we were eating Dennis commented that he wondered how many General Authorities had gone through that station ... on their way to serve the Lord. It was a very nice dinner in a quaint setting.

We stayed at The Anniversary Inn ~ in Logan. Our room was in the white house - the bay window near the sign.

Our children gave us a night's stay at an Anniversary Inn for Christmas -- and because we hadn't been to Logan for 30+ years ... we decided to go there. This is the main house of the Inn - very quaint and elegant. Our room is in the home to the left (the white one). We had an amazing time there and are grateful for thoughtful children who know their parents love getting away.

~ A drive up Logan Canyon ~

These pictures were taken along the river heading for Bear Lake. Another very beautiful place to see. (Many people were fishing - it was the 'free' fishing day in Utah)

On our way up to Logan we saw this place along the freeway -- we have seen it before, but never took the time to stop -- but today we did!! It is called 'Smith and Edwards' ~ and the sign out front says ... "We have what you want ... if we can find it". It is the 'hoppin' place on a Saturday ... and they do have EVERYTHING ... I would say the store is bigger than Costco - complete with old Army/Navy surplus items ... what a place!!

We concluded the day by eating at Cafe Rio -- I think we were on a Mexican food binge!! It too was yummy!

Actually the final stop was at another one of Dennis' favorite places -- and it happened to be right next to Cafe Rio ... Harbor Freight! (It's a tool place - which has things guys like to look at!) I didn't take a picture of it!!

We are grateful for the blessing of being able to spend a couple of days together ... just the two of us - and are thankful to our children for providing the opportunity. Sometimes parents need a little push not to just do the 'work things' that are always there to be done.
We love you kids!! Thank you!
